Tennis fans are sorry to see former world number one player Martina Hingis retire from the game amid a growing scandal that she tested positive for coke at Wimbledon this year. With her early retirement, the colorful 27-year-old Swiss champion leaves behind a women’s tour full of fashion model wannabes and baseliner clones, and loses a gamer who relies on finesse and shot variety to win points.
Tiger Woods, the richest golfer if not the richest athlete of all times, has scored a $100 million deal to promote a new sports performance drink. “Gatorade Tiger” will debut in March, with such standard flavors as cherry, citrus and grape. Golfweek reported that Wood will make the cash spread out over a five-year deal.

Falcons quarterback Michael Vick is rumored to be THISCLOSE to a plea deal with prosecutors in his federal illegal dogfighting case. Vick has been told the evidence is stacked against him and the only way he can get off is if he is found not guilty. Facing a minimum of 6 years in prison, Vick is said to be close to a deal where he will take a knee and plead guilty. That will still cost him 12 to 16 months in the slammer.
Rafael Nadal has completed a French Open hat-trick by beating Roger Federer 6-3 4-6 6-3 6-4 in the final at Roland Garros. The Spaniard beat the usually unbeatable Federer in the final for the second year in succession. The feat now ranks Rafa, who is 21-0 in Paris, as tied with Bjorn Borg as only the second mens player in history to win the French three years in a row.
Rapper Romeo has put his music and film career on hold after commiting to play for the University of Southern California basketball team. The 17-year-old, who is studying for a degree in business administration signed for the Trojans last week.
