Britney Spears‘ former manager being investigated by police over allegations he drugged the troubled pop tart.

Sam Lutfi was slapped with a restraining order earlier this month following claims from the star’s mother, Lynne Spears, that he admitted to drugging her daughter.

PETA sure knows how to grab headlines. The animal rights group says it thinks it knows what’s behind Britney Spears’ mental troubles.

PETA president Ingrid Newkirk has written to Spears’ parents, saying the star’s excessive meat and diary intake could be to blame.

“We have heard that Britney asked for ice-cream while she was in the hospital. There could, in fact, be a connection between her diet and her mental-health problems,” Newkirk wrote.

Britney Spears has been released from her psychiatric ward, after doctors determined the star was not a legal danger to herself or others – meaning they could no longer hold her against her will.

TMZ reports the troubled starlet was released today and is already back home.

A law enforcement source told the website that the UCLA Medical Center let Spears “because she was no longer required to stay there after 11:30 AM”.

Britney Spears’ manager has been banned from going near the star, after Spears’ mom took out a restraining order claiming he drugged her daughter.

Lynne Spears also claims 33-year-old Sam Lutfi, cut the pop tart’s phones and called her an “unfit mother”. She also says Lutfi moved into her daughter’s home and has attempted to “take control of her life, home and finances”.

The restraining order means Lutfi is banned from contacting Britney in any way, including staying away from her home and the hospital where she’s undergoing psychological evaluation.

Lynne Spears has decided that she is going to take her celebrity daughter Britney out of Los Angeles as soon as she’s released from the UCLA Medical Center, according to published reports.

“Lynne is extremely concerned for her daughter and would like to take Britney back home to Louisiana and get her out of Hollywood,” Britney’s lawyer Michael Flanagan told the New York Post’s PageSix.com.
