Simon Cowell recently admitted that he finds his show ‘American Idol’ to be “mind-numbingly boring” and can’t even be bothered to hide his true feelings: “It’s a reality show. If you’re bored you’re bored. If you’re not, you’re not. I can’t help it if I’m bored. Sometimes it’s mind-numbingly boring, and it shows on my face.”

Rocker Chris Daughty is up for four Grammy Awards and is arguably one of the most successful American Idol non-winners. Recently he told TV Guide that he thought Idol contestants should be allowed to play instruments and, “[They] should be forced to write a song on the show and perform it,” he said. “That’d bring some new life to the show.”

Taylor Hicks has been dropped from his record label following the heels of another former American Idol winner, Ruben Studdard, who was also dropped from the label. While the “Soul Patrol” must be reeling, it just proves that Chris Daughtry should have won that Idol season hands down and his record sales prove it.

It wasn’t a shocker when Ryan Seacrest announced last night that Melinda Doolittle – probably the best singer ever to appear on “American Idol” – was voted off and won’t be in the final two. She had the vocals, but the 29-year-old didn’t have the star appeal – no neck, creepy teeth, a bit heavy, and too humble.

LaKisha Jones ended her American Idol run by singing a slow funky version of “Stayin’ Alive” but her chances were anything but alive. Under the mentoring of Barry Gibb, the contestants struggled to sing Bee Gee tunes, and the field is down now to the final three: Blake Lewis and Melinda Doolittle – and the eventual winner, Jordin Sparks.

Sanjaya Malakar, the 17-year-old who dominated this season’s “American Idol” with his hairstyles and weak vocals, finally got the axe and was voted off the show Wednesday night. When the result was announced, Sanjaya wiped away tears and told Ryan Seacrest. “I’m fine. It was an amazing experience.”
“I can promise you: We won’t soon forget you,” Seacrest said.

On last night’s American Idol, judge Simon Cowell grudgingly admitted the controversial teen star Sanjaya Malakar wasn’t that bad. He closed the Latin-themed show with a soft, simple version of “Besame Mucho” – in Spanish no less.
Cowell said, “I couldn’t understand a word of it. You sang like a 14-year-old and I’m going to hate myself for this….it wasn’t horrible.”
